ABSTRACT

Objective:To compare the effects of neuromuscular joint facilitation (NJF) or isotonic muscle training on dynamic and static balance in healthy young men. Methods:October, 2019, twelve students of Capital Medical University School of Rehabilitation Medicine (aged 20 to 29) were evaluated the balance indexes of single leg standing on stable support with eyes closing and single leg standing on unstable support with eyes opening with BIODEX Balance Tester, and measured 10-meter walking time and Timed 'Up and Go' Test (TUGT) after non-intervention, NJF ankle joint pattern and ankle flexion and extension. Results:The balance indexes, 10-meter walking time and TUGT were the least after NJF (F > 18.941, P < 0.01). Conclusion:NJF ankle joint model can improve the dynamic and static balance ability of human body more effectively than isotonic contraction training alone.

ABSTRACT

Coronavirus mainly causes local infection in birds and mammals. In recent decades, there has been an evidence that it can infect humans. Highly pathogenic coronavirus, including severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), are fatal zoonotic viruses, which have posed a major threat to public health. Severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19) has also seriously endangered the health and safety of the human beings. These coronaviruses transmit through close contact between people, resulting in the development of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and multiple organ failure (MOF) and having a higher morbidity and mortality. This article reviews the structure, epidemiology, immunology and treatment of the coronavirus, hoping to provide reference for the prevention, control and treatment of the disease.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To observe the effects of Kinesio Taping and kneepad on position sense of knee in healthy young adult male. Methods:In September, 2019, 20 healthy adult male aged 21 to 27 were selected. They were measured the joint angle error in angle reproduction test, and tested with functional reach test (FRT), 10-meter walking time (10MWT), and Timed "Up and Go" Test (TUGT) under follow four conditions: non-intervention, simple Kinesio Taping, simple kneepad, and both Kinesio Taping and kneepad. Results:For the angle error, it was the most under non-intervention, and the least under simple Kinesio Taping (F = 61.260, P < 0.001). For FRT, there was no significant difference among all the conditions (F = 1.793, P = 0.988). For 10MWT, it was the least under simple Kinesio Taping (F = 23.817, P < 0.001). For TUGT, it was the most under non-intervention (F = 19.865, P < 0.001). Conclusion:Kinesio Taping can improve position sense of knee, as well as walking, without further benefit along with kneepad.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>A quantitative and accurate measurement of the range of hip joint flexion (RHF) is necessarily required in the evaluation of disordered or artificial hip joint function. This study aimed to assess a novel method to measure RHF more accurately and objectively.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Lateral radiographs were taken of 31 supine men with hip joints extended or flexed. Relevant angles were measured directly from the radiographs. The change in the sacrofemoral angle (SFA) (the angle formed between the axis of the femur and the line tangent to the upper endplate of S1) from hip joint extension to hip joint flexion, was proposed as the RHF. The validity of this method was assessed via concomitant measurements of changes in the femur-horizontal angle (between the axis of the femur and the horizontal line) and the sacrum-horizontal angle (SHA) (between the line tangent to the upper endplate of S1 and the horizontal line), the difference of which should equal the change in the SFA.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The mean change in the SFA was 112.5 ± 7.4°, and was independent of participant age, height, weight, or body mass index. The mean changes in the femur-horizontal and SHAs were 123.0 ± 6.4° and 11.4 ± 3.0°, respectively. This confirmed that the change of SFA between hip joint extension and hip joint flexion was equal to the difference between the changes in the femur-horizontal and SHAs.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>Using the SFA, to evaluate RHF could prevent compromised measurements due to the movements of pelvis and lumbar spine during hip flexion, and is, therefore, a more accurate and objective method with reasonable reliability and validity.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>There are different materials used for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. It has been reported that both autologous grafts and allografts used in ACL reconstruction can cause bone tunnel enlargement. This study aimed to observe the characteristics of bone tunnel changes and possible causative factors following ACL reconstruction using Ligament Advanced Reinforcement System (LARS) artificial ligament.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Forty-three patients underwent ACL reconstruction using LARS artificial ligament and were followed up for 3 years. X-ray and CT examinations were performed at 1, 3, 6, 12, 24, and 36 months after surgery, to measure the width of tibial and femoral tunnels. Knee function was evaluated according to the Lysholm scoring system. The anterior and posterior stability of the knee was measured using the KT-1000 arthrometer.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>According to the Peyrache grading method, grade 1 femoral bone tunnel enlargement was observed in three cases six months after surgery. No grade 2 or grade 3 bone tunnel enlargement was found. The bone tunnel enlargement in the three cases was close to the articular surface with an average tunnel enlargement of (2.5 ± 0.3) mm. Forty cases were evaluated as grade 0. The average tibial and femoral tunnel enlargements at the last follow-up were (0.8 ± 0.3) and (1.1 ± 0.3) mm, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference in bone tunnel width changes at different time points (P > 0.05). X-ray and CT measurements were consistent.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>There was no marked bone tunnel enlargement immediately following ACL reconstruction using LARS artificial ligament. Such enlargement may, however, result from varying grafting factors involving the LARS artificial ligament or from different fixation methods.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>There are many different materials used for ligament reconstruction. Currently, autograft, allograft, and artificial ligaments are used in the reconstruction. The objective of this study was to explore the clinical result of cruciate ligament reconstruction under arthroscopy.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Eighty-one cases were reconstructed with the LARS ligament under arthroscopy, including 43 cases of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, 20 cases of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury, and 18 cases of ACL combined with PCL injuries of the knee. The follow up period was 10 to 49 months. The International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) and Lysholm knee score scales were used for functional evaluation. We examined the anterior and posterior stability of the knee with KT-1000.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>According to the Lysholm knee function score scale, the average preoperative score of (44.6+/-1.4) increased to a postoperative score of (82.8+/-2.5) in the ACL group and from (46.6+/-2.3) to (80.8+/-2.0) in the PCL group. In the ACL combined with PCL injury group, the preoperative score increased from (45.2+/-1.2) to (85.5+/-2.3). According to IKDC score standards, in ACL group we evaluated 19 cases as C and 24 cases as D, preoperatively, and postoperatively 27 cases as A, 14 cases as B and two cases as C. In the preoperative PCL group, we had 11 cases defined as C and nine cases as D that resolved to 12 cases as A, seven as B and one case of C in postoperative evaluation. In the ACL combined with PCL injury group we defined four cases as C and 14 as D during preoperative scoring. These patients had postoperative grades of six cases as A, 10 as B, and two cases as C. All of the results have statistical significance.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>ACL, PCL, or combined ACL and PCL reconstruction using the LARS ligament under arthroscopy is a minimally invasive, safe and effective method to treat cruciate ligament injuries of the knee. Clinical results are satisfactory in the short term.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the expression of TGF-betaR I, Smad2, Smad3 and Smad7 in keloids, normal scars and normal skins. Discuss the significance of these proteins in the course of keloid.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Immunohistochemistry method was used to detect the expression intensity and distribution of these proteins in above 3 kinds of different tissues in 44 cases. Statistics was used to analyze the data.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The expression of TGF-betaR I were much stronger in keloid than in the other two tissues. The expression of Smad7 were lower in keloids. The increase expression of Smad2,3 were not obvious, but they were found to accumulate in the nucleus.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The results indicate that over-expression of TGF-betaR I, low-expression of Smad7 and accumulation of Smad2,3 may be one of the etiological factors of keloids. This research may provide a new idea to prevent and treat keloids or other fibrosis diseases in the future.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the significance and the role of the p53 gene mutation in the exon 4 to 8 in keloid fibroblasts.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Tissue samples from twelve patients with keloid and twelve hyperplastic scar respectively were harvested for in vitro culture of fibroblasts, and normal skin samples from the same patients were employed as the control. Polymerase chain reaction-based single-strained conformational polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) and DNA sequencing were employed to detect p53 gene mutations of the fibroblasts.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The points and frameshift mutations in the exon 4, 5, 6, 7 of p53 gene were identified in 9 of the 12 keloid tissue samples. No p53 gene mutation was detected in all hyperplastic scar and normal skin samples.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>p53 gene mutation might play an important role in the formation and development of keloids.</p>
